BREATHE

Welcome!

I’m so happy you’re here!

Please use the handbook and audio practices on this page to support your learning during the course and beyond. All are easily downloadable.

Some helpful tips to keep in mind as we begin…

  • See this course as an adventure that will take you into new territory, and fresh discoveries. Imagine yourself like a curious open-minded scientist exploring unchartered territory, and see what you discover!

  • You will be offered a number of different practices and techniques to explore; they are not offered as ‘homework’, but as suggestions for practice’. Depending on how helpful they are you might use some practices more than others. Listen to your body and see what practices feel most helpful in as you go.  And if you’re not sure, just experiment! Remember, even just short periods of practice each day will bring benefits to you.

  • Always go gently with your body, never force or strain.  A relaxed effort is most valuable during these practices. Know that challenges will arise as you practice, and that this is a normal part of the process. You might encounter pleasant or unpleasant experiences. At times you might feel calm, joyful, peaceful at other times, frustrated, bored or sad. Remember, there is no wrong experience, simply be mindful of whatever arises in the practice.

  •  You will get out of this what you put in. Many find that journaling/noting down experiences from the practice helps to support their learning.

  • It’s good to be a ‘slow learner’. It’s easy to defeat the purpose of this course and push ourselves too hard. If the pace feels too fast, be kind to yourself and slow down.

  • It’s definitely not uncommon to experience resistance when embarking on practices such as this.  So you might well notice thoughts like, “I don’t have time to do any practice” “This isn’t working” “I’m not doing it right”. I would encourage you to not take too much notice of these thoughts and just do the practice anyway.

  • Please take responsibility for your own emotional safety, and don’t push yourself through something if it doesn’t feel right in the moment.

  • Please feel free to email me between sessions if you need some extra support.

  • Remember, for some people it’s very challenging at first to be aware of the breath…so go gently and kindly…

Audio Practices

Below you will find audio practices to accompany you through the course.

It is helpful if you can set aside some time each day to practice. This will mean that the skills you learn will be more available to you in your everyday life.
Remember, even just short periods of practice each day will bring benefits to you.
